Fremont Cadet Squadron is a local unit of the Nebraska Wing, Civil Air Patrol. Since World War Two CAP has been volunteering in local communities helping out in disasters, providing search and rescue, and teaching America's youth to serve in leadership roles. CAP consists of three main missions: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs.
Emergency Services
Civil Air Patrol has useful assets for local emergency planners. From wide-area radio communications nets, to skilled “boots on the ground” for disaster response, Fremont Cadet Squadron is ready to help. Members receive training in radio operating procedures, First Aid & CPR, missing person search, Wide Area SAR, and missing aircraft search. Fremont has highly-skilled ground teams with many years of experience, and is currently developing its airborne capability. |
Cadet Programs
Civil Air Patrol cadets have unique opportunities to learn about aerospace. Using curriculum developed by educators across the country, cadets are challenged to apply knowledge and skills from classroom instruction to solve aerospace-related problems. Cadets in CAP also learn about leadership through training materials, leadership encampments, as well as the examples set for them by Senior Members who come from all walks of life. Cadets have opportunities to use their leadership skills because each cadet learns to fill an important role in the unit. |
Aerospace Education
CAP has two branches of aerospace education: internal and external. The internal program teaches cadets about the science of aerospace as well as showing them possible careers in the aerospace industry. Cadets build model rockets tour aerospace facilities, and participate in aerospace-related events. The external program provides materials to schools that teach aerospace topics through lessons that are aligned with science standards. Teachers are able to join CAP as Aerospace Education Members just for these programs. |
